It's no big secret that stress can take a toll on your skin, causing all sorts of wrinkles and blemishes. I'm pretty sure I aged at least two years in the last three months, which were comprised of finding a job, finding a new place to live, moving my belongings 300 miles, unpacking boxes, starting a new job, and adjusting to a new schedule.
I once read that the best thing to do for healthy skin is to relax. Oh, really? You don't say. I would love to soak in a bubble bath with candles, a book, and a glass of wine. But, um, I'm not sure where exactly that fits in when you are finding a job, finding a new place to live, moving your belongings 300 miles, unpacking boxes, starting a new job, and adjusting to a new schedule. And, anyway, I have no idea which box contains the candles and which contains the bubble bath (the wine glasses, on the other hand, were among the first items unpacked). Sure, I'd love to sit and listen to some music, but it seems just as stressful to sit there thinking about all the boxes I need to unpack instead of just unpacking them already.
My skin always looks its loveliest on vacation and I marvel at how dewy it is after two weeks in Paris or the Yucatan. But, let's get real, we can't always be relaxing in hammocks on the beach. Sometimes we need more than just a massage to get our skin looking pretty.
I don't have any secrets about how to de-stress for better skin (other than vacationing as often as possible!). What I can say is this: no matter how stressed I am there are three things I can do to help my skin. I fear what my skin might look like if I didn't follow these steps: 1) wear sunscreen, 2) drink water, and 3) moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. We may not always be able to de-stress, but it doesn't mean we can't fight the blemishes and wrinkles on a daily basis by staying hydrated, inside and out.
Feel like your moisturizer’s fresh feeling can’t last all day? New Olay Total Effects Cooling Hydration instantly cools and leaves skin with a moisturized fresh feeling that lasts from morning to night. This oil-free daily moisturizer provides 7 anti aging benefits in 1 lightweight formula--complete with vitamins, minerals and cooling mint extract for an invigorating burst of freshness. I always wash my face and drink lots of water. Plus, I've never worn foundation in my life! Had to laugh about how relaxed being in the Yucatan makes you feel...believe it or not, I get SUPER stressed in Yucatan, because being there means we're visiting the in-laws and they DRVE ME CRAZY! Plus, my husband always wants to go-go-go when we're there, so I actually break out more!

Actually, the past two years of tons of stress have really affected my skin. Currently I use Olay beauty fluid as a base and another moisturizer over that. I don't wash my face other than a rinse in the shower as I don't wear makeup. I do exfoliate about once or twice a month though.

I don't do much in the way of a routine. I occasionally moisturize and use Cetaphil cleanser but usually its more of just wash and go. I'm allergic to many skin care products so it's just easier to avoid all of them.

Posted by: April Kennedy | December 13, 2010 at 06:33 AM
It doesn't look as lovely as it used to, but I rarely wear make-up, and I wash cosmetics off thoroughly after wearing them. I sometimes use witch hazel, or if I'm particularly oily rubbing alcohol, for the final clean. If my skin feels overly dry or tight after cleaning, I'll use a dab of body lotion.

That's it, though I do put Night Olay around my eyes every so often before I go to bed. I have those paper thin wrikles forming and want to combat them as best I can.
