For the last year, I've been writing a column as a Ms. JD Writer in Residence. Ms. JD is a wonderful nonprofit organization for law students and young women attorneys. I serve on the Board of Directors, in addition to being a 2010 Writer in Residence.
As the first post informs you, my Ms. JD column was born at Brent's Delicatessen in Northridge, California. Ms. JD's Executive Director and I had met for lunch and, over two heaping plates of cheese blintzes and potato pancakes, she convinced me that I should document my decision to move to California's Central Coast. There’s something decidedly crazy about moving to a small beach community, particularly when one owes massive loans and one doesn’t have a job lined up in the small beach community of one’s choice. The column is titled "Naming It, Claiming It" for reasons I discuss in the posts (and, yes, it's based on a Dr. Phil Life Lesson. What? I like Dr. Phil's Life Lessons! They are good stuff!)
Anyway, I did it and it worked out and here are six posts, in order, that tell a little bit of the story:
Naming It, Claiming It: Pursuing a Legal Life on California's Central Coast
Naming It, Claiming It: The Geography of Bliss
Naming It, Claiming It: Why Here?
Naming It, Claiming It: Play to Win
Naming It, Claiming It: What Ms. JD Did For Me
Naming It, Claiming It: Arrived
For any of my readers who are law students or recent law grads, I encourage you to Email Me to find out ways you can get involved with Ms. JD by donating, volunteering, writing, or planning an event to support our Global Education Fund.
