One of Will's co-workers just returned from a weekend in Paris and brought back macarons. Three of these macarons ended up in front of me last night and I was immediately transported back to Paris, circa 2003.
I don't have any plans to visit Paris soon, so I am living vicariously through Michelle, who is visiting in August (lucky girl!). I've suggested Ladurée and Fauchon as two lovely shops for macaron tasting, but if you have more suggestions, please leave a comment!
For those of us staying in the States, here's a roundup of macaron shops and recipes. If we can't go to Paris, at least we can pretend to be in Paris.
Order some from:
MadMac
Paulette
MacarOn Café
Or make your own (and send me some, please!):
Basic Macaron
Violet Macarons With Violet And Vanilla Bean Buttercream
Cherry Blossom Macarons {thanks Megan}
Espresso-Blackberry Macarons
Cracked Pepper, Mint and Strawberry Macarons
Rose White Chocolate Macaroons
Hibiscus Macarons
In case that's not enough to get you started, a macaron cookbook
Did you hear? The macaron in the new cupcake!
Pierre Herme is also a must-stop for macarons (and everything else!) in Paris.

I feel slightly embarrassed admitting this, but I don't think I've ever had a macaron. Maybe I'll try and make some ... after the bar.

The violet ones are on my List!
I may be in Paris in a few weeks! Just for like 2-3 days...but a girl can dream!

It took me 38 years until I realized that a marcaron was different from a macaroon! I like both but call me crazy NOTHING beats a chocolate dipped macaroon (so uncultured of me I know!)
