Welcome to the first day of Pink University!
Our professor today is the ever-lovely Sarah who you might remember from here, here, here, and here! Take your seats, it's time to get started!
Dear Janet + Slice of Pink readers,
My guest post begins with a confession: I originally got the idea to reenact a childhood photograph from America's Next Top Model (Cycle 13, Episode 2: The Early Bird Gets a Makeover, if you must know. Don't judge.). However, I'm guessing Tyra's people got the idea from the Young Me/Now Me phenomenon of 2008. (The gallery is amazing; please view for inspiration!) And now, I borrow as well. You should, too!
Basically, I figured parents appreciate ye olde-fashioned homemade card, mixed with a dash of nostalgia and a pinch of humor. Ergo, the recreation-of-a-memorable-childhood-photo-juxtaposed-with-the-orginal-as-endearing-card idea was born.
Instructions:
1. Search high and low for the Greatest Hits of your childhood photographs. Select one you think will make Pops chuckle.
2. Gather clothing articles, accessories, props, supplies, anything that will assist you in recreating your look and the setting.
3. Either use a camera with a self timer, a webcam, or find a friend to play photographer. Make an afternoon of it--play photographer for one another.
4. Strike the pose! Don't worry about being so literal. Try to capture the spirit of the original image.
5. Scan the old photo and print (or use the original if you like). Also print a copy of the updated version.
6. Paste, glue, what have you, the two images onto card stock, and embellish any way you like! Optional: include a cheesy pun or poem. (Note: I used Elmer's Washable School Glue No Run GEL, and it bled through my photos, causing some color change. I'm going to pretend that was all part of my artistic master plan.)
7. Voilà! Homemade, nostalgic, and humorous Father's Day card is ready for delivery.
Next up: this photo for my grandma's Bastille Day card.
Anyone have a long-sleeved (with ruffles!) flannel nightgown with a tiny blue flower print and/or a red Hello Kitty! suitcase circa 1981 I can borrow? Merci!
avec l'amour,
Sarah
So cool! Tyra would be proud :)

So, if say someone had a picture of himself or herself in green-striped coveralls at age 3, busily using tools to "fix" a car, to recreate it in spirit, they could wear what and fix a computer in the 2010 photo?

hmmm . . . I like this challenge, Renee. Let me think on it + get back to you. Still 6 days before Dad Day.

Young me/now me = awesome.

so cute! I love the idea. I'll have to look for old photos of me next time I'm home (won't be able to do this in time for father's day, but perhaps for next year). excellent!
