I basically get all my news from National Public Radio, listening to it for an hour each morning while I get ready for the day. I still do that, but now, with my own personal office television, I can also get news from cable news stations. All I can say is THANK GOODNESS for that, because the television news tells me some really important things that NPR completely misses. Like, for example, loads of information about reprehensible murders and fights on buses and hours of coverage about Miss America contestants and people that went missing during Spring Break two years ago.
And, wow! The little headlines they scroll across the bottom of the screen? Aren't they ever informative! Here are some actual, verbatim headlines that I copied down today while watching the news:
"Finding a job is hard work."
"Study finds actual results differ from what company claims."
"Mink coat and diamond ring returned to Hudson plane crash survivor."
"Obama, Cheney offer competing views on national security."
NPR doesn't tell me these things! Oh, wait. Yes, they do. They just assume I am more intelligent than a 4th grader and care more about national politics than a pitbull named D-boy being honored for his heroics. What are they thinking?
Thank you for your succinct comments on the ridiculous nature of the media. You're right! Who cares! It's not news! So, turn off your TV Janet, it's not called an idiot box for nothing! :-)
