For about eight months, there has been almost no dairy in our house—no milk or cheese and only the very occasional ice cream. But, a couple of weeks ago, I won a case of Fage Yogurt in a BlogHer contest and, suddenly, we had a whole fridge full of dairy. When it rains, it pours.
The yogurt, which arrived overnight in a cooler box, required a signature on delivery due to the perishable nature of the contents. Since I was in finals at the time and could not sit around waiting for home delivery, I had the box delivered to Will’s work. This meant that Will had to ride his bicycle home with one hand, while using the other hand to balance a case of yogurt on his handlebars.
The yogurt is thick and creamy and some of the varieties come with a little compartment which holds a delicious bit of fruit or honey.
At home, I have the perfect spoons for getting the last bit of fruit and honey from the compartment—these tiny spoons that I bought at Galeries Lafayette, a splendid Paris department store. All the desserts in Paris were served with these diminutive sorts of spoons, so I purchased a set, packed them in my luggage, and brought them back to California.
(I carried the spoons; Will carried six bottles of wine in his backpack.)
When I started bringing the yogurts to my office last week, however, I did not bring one of the spoons along. There is nothing particularly special about the design of the tiny spoons, they are actually quite plain and I suspect that I could easily find a similar set at a Macy’s, but they did come all the way from France. Although we have lost plenty of silverware over the years, I still have the whole set of bitty spoons, clearly because they are never allowed to leave the house.
So, I’m sitting in my office, eating a Honey Fage and the spoon I am using—the inferior, regular-sized spoon—cannot seem to get the last bits of honey from the corners of the honey compartment. So, what I do is: I listen to make sure nobody is coming down the hall and then I stick my finger in the container and sweep up the last bit of honey, sucking it off my finger. Maybe not classy, but totally worth it.
Ha, I totally do that, too!

I love that yogurt! And, yes, I have used my finger as well. :p

I would do the SAME thing. Is that yogurt worth it?

Just out of curiousity, why did you not have dairy for 8 months? And if you mentioned it before I apologize! I'm still fairly new to your blog. :)
