We're going to a wedding this summer--one of many weddings this summer, actually--and the groom just sent out an email to the guest list. Apparently, the DJ they have hired is allowing guests to log onto his website, look up the wedding, and request reception songs.
So, Will and I have started a list:
Hot in Here, Nelly
The Thong Song, Sisqo
Kung-Fu Fighting, Carl Douglas
Damn, It Feels Good to be a Gangsta, Geto Boys
Another One Bites the Dust, Queen
Ice, Ice Baby, Vanilla Ice (of which I know all the words to; evidenced about 3:30 in)
HOW AWESOME IS IT THAT WE, THE GUESTS, GET TO SELECT THE TUNES?
Will and I ended up having a live band at our wedding but, before we found the band, we were looking at DJs. My only requirement was that the DJ would not, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, play Hot in Here. If a DJ even listed Hot in Here as a possibility on their website, they were immediately disqualified. I don't know what it was about Hot in Here, specifically, but I knew that it was going to RUIN MY WEDDING. Luckily the band we hired, an oldies-latin-jazz group, had probably never heard of Nelly so they made the cut.
In all seriousness, I need your help! What should I request? Any not-to-be-missed wedding songs? Or any definitely-to-be-missed wedding songs?
Totally with you...mine is the chicken dance. If I hear that, I'm out of the door...and sometimes before cake is served.

Ha, my roommate did a funny post on this: http://weddingroadtrip.com/217/top-ten-worst-wedding-first-dance-songs/
My contribution: If You Wanna be Happy by Jimmy Soul.

So from my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
Lovely, huh?

Justin Timberlake mixed with champagne makes me believe that I am 21 and a finalist on "So You Think You Can Dance". So I only listen to him in my car sober and alone.

Just finished up with two wedding weekends back to back. The best song out of the mix was, "Nothing's going to stop us now". Kind of a slow one, but a classic.

"It's The End Of The World As We Know It" by REM. That should be the first song they play... =p

I'm sure everyone and their mother will request these, but you always run into what I call "yelling boy songs" like "Living on a Prayer" and "Don't Stop Believing." You know what I mean - every guy in the place throws his head back and sings/yells along.
I always request "More Today Than Yesterday," by Spiral Starecase. It's cheesy, but I don't care.

My DJ offers that website thing too. I gave the site to my mom and the first song she put on her list was "wake me up before you go-go" by Wham! I will not be giving the url out to anyone else, needless to say.

We just had an ipod wedding and it was so much fun! I have to say Love Shack because everyone from every age loves that song (except my husband, but he was outvoted).

Nice choices!
We ended up having a live band as well, but had we gone the DJ route, my dealbreaker was Mony, Mony.
Seriously, I would've been OUT of there (after snagging some cake).

haha oh man those are some great choices. and love that they are letting the guests pick the music. i say you add 'my girl' by the temptations and then 'hanging tough' by new kids on the block. two obvious winners, haha.

What a fun idea to have your guests make a request list.
On a side note, I've actually met Vanilla Ice. Yep...it was when I was a sophmore in college. He performed at a frat party down the street. So big time.
