I purchased Martha's new book, Ivy Briefs, at Barnes and Noble over the weekend. Four chapters in, I have decided that many people should read Martha's book: people who love her blog, for example, and people who went to law school and survived. It could be good summer reading for somebody who once considered law school, but decided that teaching was a better career, and for people who are interested in what law school might be like. However. People who have taken the LSAT, signed up for law school, agreed to $100,000 of debt, and quit their jobs to start classes in the fall should not, should absolutely not, read Martha's description of law school. For those people, the book is a nightmare-inducing horror story. It's hilarious, yes, but only if it's not going to happen to you.
I am only a few pages in, but I was thinking of you already!!

I hope you enjoy the book. It gets less scary, I promise.
Bottom line? I freaked myself out WAY MORE than I needed to during my first year of law school. Someone should have slapped me gently in the face and told me to chill out, already and stop taking everything so damn seriously.
Law school can be fine (and even fun, at times). It's all a matter of keeping things in perspective!

Although its all very stressful, law school, the bar, and being an attorney in general--I've always been able to keep it in perspective. Basically, its just school/job and there are things that are much more important. Unfortunately, a lot of people in law school seem to think that their next breath depends on their grade in a class.
You'll do great--I have no doubts!
