Last night, the lovely Appetite for Conversation called me on the telephone, asking if I would be interested in accompanying her to San Francisco so that she could pick up a bridesmaid dress. I quickly surveyed the mess I had created in the office while cleaning out my craft cabinet and the pile of clothes that I was intending to put away, per my mother's instructions, and then said, "yes! I would love to accompany you to San Francisco to pick up a bridesmaid dress!"
And she's so kind that she asked tentatively, "are you sure? I know you have a lot to do."
To which I said, "are you kidding? I couldn't let you drive to San Francisco to pick up a bridesmaid's dress all alone. It's my DUTY to go with you."
Eating and shopping are so much better than packing. Anybody else need a friend to come along for a dress pick-up? Or margaritas and gossip, maybe? When duty calls, packing can wait. I understand my priorities, people.
